I have just joined this group; I am a musician/singer/songwriter for affordable healthcare. Many of my songs reflect concern over the healthcare crisis.

A-For-Da-Ble Health will save our economy,
it is in the best interest of everybody,
if every job moves out of the country,
than (tell me" whose gonna pay the medical fee?

There's a lot of talk regarding health care reform recently, and the industry does need it, especially since so many people that are only after the most basic of care have to get emergency cash loans to cover something as simple as a simple antibiotics script, and a full third of the nation is without health insurance. The lead researcher for the Dartmouth Atlas of Health Care, Elliot Fisher, a practitioner for over 20 years, has pointed out that areas that spend more on health care interestingly spend more on unnecessary procedures, and have higher mortality rates. So why do we need payday cash advances for health care that is worse when more expensive?

A very good article you might check out is "The Cost Conundrum" What a Texas town can teach us about health care, by Atul Gawande. You can find it at www,newyorker.com Look under most popular, right hand side.
Also a lot of organizing is going on for Obama's Public Option. You can check that out at www.barackobama.com/healthcare if you don't know about it. Many communities throughout the U.S. are organizing healthcare events for Obama's Public Option on June 27th.

Health care reform is something very personal for my family. Someone in our family has had cronic illness for 17 years. The insurance costs are incredibly high and don't cover near enough. Even when we could finally afford insurance, we pay an outragous premium due to pre-exhisting conditions, it does not even kick in until we meet a $20,000 deductable. Illness and insurance keeps us in constant state of financial challange. We are working middle class people and still have a hard time making ends meet because of health care and related costs. Affordable, effective health insurance is something that everyone should have access to. We have more doctors and medical care professionals than any other country in the world. Proper health care should not be unaccessable here because of the skyrocketing costs for it. And if you are forced to get health care it should not be able tobankrupt you. Reform on this issue is right up there with a peaceful resolution for the middle east, and environmental issue. These are my top three govenmental priorities.
