Thanks for the post. I've heard that Pittsburgh lost half its population in recent years to de-industrialization and now is being held up as an example of Green economy. Is that the future for all of us, scatter the workers to the four winds and the…

Corrine, thanks for the note. I had heard about the collection at UNM; it is great news that a freindly person is in charge! There are a few more of Reynaldo Olivares of the TGP images up at a site called Printeresting.

The University of New Mexico at Albuquerque, NM has a terrific collection of TGP prints (perhaps the best in the U.S.?) and also of Posada's works (their predecessor). The head of their print collection is really friendly and helpful, you can make a…

Thanks for your comment, Lester. It was a great day. I went back to the TGP another day to meet the archivist, Karina Rodriquez. Unfortunately, Reynaldo did not make it in that day. The TGP asked for a modest 200 peso contribution, about $15, for pe…

How wonderful! I tried to view TGP prints where there is an archive of them at Museo de San Carlos but I didn't have the right credentials so I had to be content with looking at what there was of their work in the library. I had been told the same t…

I was surprised to learn the man who taught the radical young printmakers of Oaxaca's ASARO collective was a mild-mannered seventy-five year old Japanese master printer. I had the privilege of speaking with him earlier this year in O… Continue

Art News from OAXACA

http://www.commonsense2.com/

I've just returned from two months working on a sabbatical project on Mexican popular prints in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Like Lester Dore, who invited me to this forum, I've curated a show of woodblock prints by ASARO, the Assembly of Revolutionary Artists of Oaxaca. These guys are remarkable artists. They came together as a collective during the turmoil in Oaxaca in 2006.

My friend Chuck Brown, and his wife Pat, produce a Pr… Continue

Dear Kevin,
Please drop by the Center for Book Arts in NYC where there are two interesting exhibitions, "Racism: An American Family Value" and "Threads: Interweaving Textu[r]al Meaning". I have work in the"Threads..." exhibition. The opening is Wednesday, July 8 from 6-8PM. It would be great to meet other members from Art of Democracy. For more information go to www.centerforbookarts.org
